Our Journey

A Journey of 50 Years

From a small children's organization in Dhaka to a global force for child welfare — the story of Kochi Konther Asar.

January 15, 1976

Foundation in Dhaka

Kochi Konther Asar was established by distinguished social organizer Hemayet Hossain in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded with the objective of creating a safe, inclusive, and development-oriented platform for Bangladeshi children, the organization began its mission to promote child rights, creative arts, and empowerment of underprivileged children.

1978

Government Registration & Recognition

KKA obtained formal registration from The Directorate of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of Bangladesh. President Ziaur Rahman served as Chief Patron, providing visionary leadership during the formative years. The organization received formal approval as a National Children's Organization from the National Social Welfare Council.

1980s

National Prominence

Under Hossain's leadership, KKA grew to national prominence, becoming the preeminent children's organization in Bangladesh within 3-4 years. The organization hosted national seminars, child conferences, and training programs. Support came from influential figures including state chiefs, cabinet members, professors, journalists, and local administrations.

1990

UNICEF World Children Summit

KKA orchestrated the landmark 1990 UNICEF World Children Summit — a historic gathering attended by state chiefs from 100+ countries and 10,000 children. This event cemented KKA's position as a major international player in child welfare advocacy and global children's rights.

1991

Expansion to the United States

Founder Hemayet Hossain relocated to the United States, where he resurrected KKA as a non-profit entity in New York, securing registrations with UNICEF and the UN. This marked the beginning of KKA's truly international chapter, expanding operations to the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

2000

KKA USA — Registered Non-Profit

Kochi Konther Asar USA became an actively engaged registered non-profit organization in New York, collaborating with UNICEF and other international child-focused NGOs on global child welfare initiatives. The organization expanded its digital presence and international partnerships significantly.

2026

50th Anniversary — A New Chapter

Celebrating five decades of service, KKA has planned a series of extensive programs and events to commemorate its 50th anniversary. The organization now operates across 100+ countries, working with underprivileged children on rights, protection, education, healthcare, and cultural development.
